24 LIGHT AND WATER reflected bow would be scarcely noticeable, but it seems that in a large proportion of those probably very rare cases, in which the sheet of water is large enough and smooth enough for the purpose, it might be quite conspicuous. On the only occasion on which the writer remembers to have seen the reflexion of a rainbow in water, its extremities were hidden by near objects, so that he had no opportunity of observing any break.
