Canada is, as pointed out previously, one of the most im¬
portant countries in the world for the production of base¬
metal. It is, obviously, also its main economic activity.
Below is a short commentary on some of the outstanding com¬
panies in this field.
International Nickel has a strong and aggressive manage¬
ment. It produces 75% of the world's nickel. there is a very
definite trend of increasing the use of nickel in a great
variety of products.
Aluminium Co. is one of the most outstanding Canadian
corporations. It is the world's largest producer of aluminium
4ngots, accounting for 25% of the total world’ production. It

Lities. Furthermore, the company owns plants in 23 countries
and has over 30 subsidiaries. Sales organizations are estab¬
lished in 79 countries. Bauxite reserves in the Carribean
area are estimated to last for 30 years. New acquisitions
will probably double this ficure.As far as the future is con¬
cerned, it is obvious that the use of aluminium is ever ex¬
panding mainly in building, transportation (aviation, for
instance), household supply and electrical industries.
Consoledated Mining and Smelting Co. of Canada, Ltd. is
one of the world's largest and lowest cost producers of lead,
gine, silver and fertilizer. Its high grade management has
gtarted some very important expansions and improvements.
Hudson Bay Mining Co. is operating a fearge copper and
gine mine in Flin Flon, Menitoba. Some important reserves ha¬
ve been discovered recently.
Noranda Mines is the second largest producer of copper
and gold in Canada.
. The iron ore situation in Canada is not, at the present
time, too impressive. However, the new developments in Lab¬
rador are proceeding rapidiy and should prove profitable.
The most important Canadian company 4n that area is Hollin¬
cially strong corporation. Another company with large and
